Biotech Summer Experience
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
Program overview
Students will isolate and purify plasmid DNA, perform PCR, restriction digests, and gel electrophoresis, and analyze gene sequences using bioinformatics tools. DNA sequences will be submitted to Genbank. Must bring own laptop; lunch not provided. Students supervised through lunch. Transportation required.
Eligibility
Age 16 or older by start; U.S. citizen if 18 at start; entering grades 11-12 in Fall 2026; cumulative GPA 3.3+; science GPA 3.5+; attend a Northern California high school; complete Biology and Chemistry or Integrated Science Series I and II; eligible to access the lab under NDAA Section 3112 (not a citizen of China, Russia, Iran, or North Korea without dual U.S. citizenship or permanent residence). · Students 18 or older must be U.S. citizens; NDAA Section 3112 restricts access for citizens of China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea without dual U.S. citizenship or permanent residence. · Must attend a Northern California high school (public, charter, private, or homeschool)
