Program overview
The Texas High School Coastal Monitoring Program (THSCMP) is led by the Bureau of Economic Geology at The University of Texas at Austin. Students, teachers, and scientists work together to study dune and beach dynamics along the Texas coast. Students learn to measure topography, map vegetation lines and shorelines, collect sediment samples, and observe weather and wave conditions. During the 2021–2022 academic year, eight schools participated, with 21 field trips and approximately 215 students.
