Program overview
The Texas High School Coastal Monitoring Program engages people who live along the coast in the study of their natural environment. Students from Port Aransas High School measure shore-normal beach and dune topographic profiles, make observations on weather condition, sea state, longshore current, and dune vegetation, and monitor selected beaches over a period of one year. Scientists from The University of Texas at Austin, Bureau of Economic Geology provide the tools and training. The project is a collaboration with the Port Aransas Independent School District.
